Shoes!!

Amen.

Sorry, I know there are many Croc-lovers out there but I just don't think they're appropriate for use outside of your home perimeter.  They were originally made as a garden shoe which is what they should be used at.  I'll even allow wearing them inside the house.  But I do not like seeing them at the mall, grocery store, or *gulp* dinner theatre.  Yup, it's happened.

Now these are some nice pair of shoes we'll agree I think:

Salsa Roll-ups

I made this recipe for the first time during the holidays for a get-together with friends.  It was a great light appetizer with lots of color and flavor.  I found the recipe here originally and here is mine:

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 pkg light cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tbsp. salsa
  • 2 large spinach-flavoured tortillas
  • 1/2 cup light cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
How-To:
  1. Mix the cream cheese and salsa together.  Spread onto the tortillas.
  2. Layer shredded cheese on top evenlt and then sprinkle on chilli powder.
  3. Roll-up tightly from one end to the other, keeping as tight as possible as you go.
  4. Cut each roll into 9 slices.

Enjoy!

Love Letters Tutorial

Here is a super easy and cute tutorial perfect for upcoming Valentines Day decor or even for weddings.  I have used them at cake tables and candy buffet tables before.

Supplies Needed:
  • wooden letters
  • red paint
  • paint brush
  • glue gun and glue sticks
  • red yarn

  • Paint the letters front and back with the paint.  This will help cover any spots the yarn sees through.

Wrap the yarn continuously from point to point.  You will have to play around with the corners that get tricky!

    Voila!

The Looks of the Golden Globes 2012

I heart award season!  I heart watching the red carpet live and seeing my favorites win awards.  I'm equally excited to watch Fashion Police tonight on E! rip apart who wore what.  Last night was the 2012 Golden Globes.  Here are a few looks that catched my eye:

All photos from www.tmz.com

Jessica Alba
loved the sparkle in the dress...she was glowing!

Jessica Biel
ultra sexy without looking like a tramp...the back was just as pretty with Tiffany jewel necklace...but where is the engagement ring?!

Julie Bowen
i love this look (even for bridal!)....she joked that it was her night to feel like a girl and the longest dress she's ever worn lol

Claire Danes
she's growing on me as a person....love the back of this dress WANT!

Sarah Michelle Gellar
pretty bold for someone who's been out of the limelight until she got a new show last year....this looks like a wedding dress that had a blue pen explode on it....FAIL!

Angelina Joile
nice to see her in something other than black

Heidi Klum
reminds me of something you wear on vacation not the red carpet

Diane Lane
Does she ever age?! She keeps looking more elegant and she's turning 47 on Sunday

Madonna
I like this for her...looks more like she's keeping it real to herself then dressing up like someone she is not...and loved her digs at Ricky Gervais

Lea Michele
she definitely pulls this off...good on her

Octavia
I loved her in The Help...poop pie lol...I think this dress is fantastic on her curves!

Paula Patton
not everyone can pull off yellow but she sure did WOW

Charlize Theron
this is my favorite of the night....j'adore Dior!!...so pretty

Sofia Vergara
her voice annoys me but she can definitely work a pretty dress

Kate Winslet
I lover her as a person & actress...this is a nice look but not as dressy as i'd like to see her

Zooey Deschanel
she's so quirky and fun...this dress is pretty yet vibrant like her... love it!!!

Easy Lemon Cookies

Here is the recipe I promised for the Lemon Cookies I made for the cookie exchange.  Unlike most recipes, this one does actually make exactly 4 dozen cookies per recipe.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. lemon cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon peel
How-To:
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine all ingredients in large bowl.  Stir until well blended.
  3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets leaving 2" space between each.
  4. Bake for 9 - 11 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.  Cool 1 minute on baking sheets then transfer to cooling racks.  Let cool completely before storing.

Enjoy!

Cookie Exchange Party DIY Tutorial

Yesterday I provided you with the template I used for the tags on my cookie exchange buddles.  Today i'll show you how I put it all together.  I will give you the receipe for the cookies too shortly!

Print out the tags after personalizing on white paper.  You'll also need cellophane roll, ribbon, scissors, hole punch, and green cardstock which you will need to cut slightly larger then the tags.  Cut out the tags and glue (i used double-sided tape) to green cardstock you've cut out.

Punch holes into end of tags.

Wrap each dozen of cookies (stacked) in a square of cellophane.

Tie each bundle with curling ribbon and add tag.

Don't they look pretty?!

All bundled up and ready to go!

The party was alot of fun and everyone got creative on how they packaged their dozen though mine was most cost-effective.  Most people used store bought ready-to-go boxes in Christmas prints or chinese take-out boxes from Michaels.  All the cookies were amazing!....they didn't last long in my house.

Cookie Exchange DIY Template

Did you notice something different??  I changed a couple things on the blog just for fun :)

Before Christmas I was invited to a cookie exchange party which was my first.  It was so much fun!  I hope she invites me every year :)  I made lemon cookies which were a hit.  I wanted to go with something different so I knew for sure no one would make these beauties.  I will share the tutorial with you tomorrow but for now here is the template I made for the tags I attached to my little packages.

New Year, New Me

How many of us still do New Years' resolutions? It feels that there is more negativity around it then anything else these days.  I still like to make a few goals for the year.  When I was 25 it was to live my life for me and I bought my first home on my own.  The following year it was to take chances and so I went outside my box and gave my phone number to the cute guy at the office...we've now been dating for over 2 1/2 years!  Lasy year it was to concentrate on my relationship and his children and building that relationship.  We now live together and its going great.

This year my goals are to be healthier and to have more date nights.  I want to improve my health which for me needs to start with weightloss (the hard part!).  I was going to start in December but with the holidays coming up I didn't want to fail right at the start while watching everyone around me gorge on goodies.  So I decided I would watch myself during the holidays and start fresh in the new year.

Today is the first day of a new me.  I do have at least 30lbs to lose.  I do not want to be super skinny.  I like curves and I plan to keep them but for other health issues, some weight needs to go!  I will keep you updated with my progress.

As motivation for my weightloss, I am not turning to magazine pictures of the latest celebs in bikinis but instead to these retro ads which remind me what my goal is and that its ok to have curves.  I wish everyone out there with similar goals the best of luck.
